Lone Mountain Ranch is a historic dude ranch set in an idyllic valley only twenty miles from the entrance to Yellowstone National Park.

Atmosphere

The mountains of Big Sky provide a spectacular backdrop to Lone Mountain Ranch and the pretty Gallatin River Valley runs nearby. The various lodgepole pine cabins, many of them original, are spread throughout the property and a rocky stream runs through its heart. The atmosphere is relaxed and the style is rustic yet extremely comfortable.

The activity program, supported by a fantastic team of wranglers and guides, is extensive and includes riding, hiking, fly-fishing, mountain biking, and kayaking. Summer at Lone Mountain Ranch is a family oriented affair and a great place for young children. The Outdoor Adventures Youth Program offers a range of great outdoor activities for kids of all ages.

Winter at Lone Mountain Ranch is a magical time and there is something for everyone. The nordic skiing program is one of the best in the country with over 85 km of groomed trails to explore and snowshoeing is another wonderful way to explore the snow-covered backcountry and hitting the trails at night under the light of the moon is a magical experience. Dog-sledding through the nearby Moonlight Basin, pulled by a team of twelve huskies,  is an experience not to be missed. You’ll also of course be on the doorstep of Big Sky Resort, which has a huge variety of terrain and refreshingly short lift lines.

Your Room

Accommodation at the ranch is in a series of wooden cabins that are spread throughout the grounds and maintain a feeling of privacy and seclusion. They fit perfectly into the authentic dude ranch atmosphere with upscale Western feel. The layout of each is slightly different but most have a separate living room, wood stove, sitting area and a large front deck.

Food & Drink

Spend your evenings swapping stories of the day’s adventures over cocktails in the saloon and enjoy locally sourced farm-to-table fare in the recently renovated restaurant.

The ranch does have minimum nights stay depending on the season from a full week in mid-summer to no requirement in the winter.
